Microsoft has announced the launch of a new Windows app compatible with macOS, iOS, iPadOS, Android, web browsers, and Windows PCs. This tool facilitates remote connections to various desktops, such as Windows 365, Azure Virtual Desktop, and others.
Key Features and Customization
The unified Windows app underwent several months of testing among Insiders. It offers several customization options, including the ability to personalize the main screen, support for multiple monitors, and USB redirection. With USB redirection, users can utilize locally connected devices like printers and webcams as if they were directly connected to the remote computer.
Availability and Future Updates
It’s important to note that the app is currently available only to users with Microsoft work and school accounts, targeting existing Remote Desktop users on Windows and other platforms. Similar apps, such as the Remote Desktop Connection included with Windows 11, have been around for some time. However, this new app provides enhanced functionality.
At present, Microsoft has not indicated plans to make this Windows app available for consumer accounts, notes NIX Solutions. It can be downloaded from the Microsoft Store and the Apple App Store, and a preview version for Android will be available soon. We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge.
