The 2015 puzzle game A Good Snowman is Hard to Build, about a monster creating snowmen, recently marked its 10th anniversary. To celebrate, the developers at Draknek & Friends introduced a special pricing model.
A Price That Changes with the Weather
As reported by Video Games Chronicle, the game’s price on itch.io now fluctuates based on the temperature in London. Every hour, OpenWeather updates the city’s current temperature, directly affecting the cost of the game.
At the time of publication, London was at 1.9°C, reducing the price from $15 to $1.9—an 87% discount. However, prices in other units of measurement differ significantly: $35.42 (35.42°F) or $275.05 (275.05K). This system means that purchasing the game is more cost-effective at night or in colder seasons. If the temperature drops below zero Celsius, the game becomes free.
This pricing model is exclusive to itch.io, as platforms like Steam, iOS, and Android do not allow for automatic price adjustments, especially on an hourly basis, notes NIXSolutions.
A New Puzzle Game Is on the Way
Draknek & Friends are also working on The Electrifying Incident, a new puzzle game featuring the monster from A Good Snowman is Hard to Build. The game is set for release in April, with a demo already available on Steam.
This unique anniversary promotion adds an interesting twist to the game’s accessibility. We’ll keep you updated on any further developments.
