TikTok, the popular short video platform, has unveiled a new feature called Sound Search. This innovative tool allows users to discover songs by simply humming or playing the melody. The feature is designed to make it significantly easier for users to find tracks when they don’t know the song’s name or artist.
How It Works and Availability
With Sound Search, users can locate desired songs by humming or playing them within the app. As TikTok is primarily a video platform, the app will also display popular videos featuring the identified song. Interestingly, TechCrunch reported that the feature can also be used to find user-created sounds and memes, such as the “Nobody’s gonna know” sound. To access Sound Search, users need to tap the microphone icon in the search tab of the TikTok app.
Currently, the new feature is only available to a limited number of users in certain regions and has not been rolled out globally. TikTok has not yet specified which regions have access to Sound Search, notes NIX Solutions. We’ll keep you updated on any developments regarding its wider release.
Comparison to Other Platforms
Sound Search bears similarities to YouTube Music’s song discovery tool, which also enables users to identify songs by humming or playing them. In contrast, the popular Shazam service only recognizes songs that are actively playing. TikTok’s implementation of this feature sets it apart in the short-form video content space, potentially enhancing user engagement and music discovery on the platform.
As TikTok continues to evolve and introduce new features, Sound Search represents another step in making content more accessible and discoverable for its vast user base. While the feature is still in limited release, it has the potential to significantly impact how users interact with and share music on the platform.
