Google’s free AI chatbot app, Gemini, has officially launched on Apple’s App Store worldwide. Upon opening the app, users are greeted by a chat window displaying a list of their previous conversations. Requests can be made via text, voice, or even the camera, enhancing user interaction.
New Features for iOS Users
Previously, accessing Gemini on iOS required users to open the Google app and switch to the designated tab. In September, the Google app’s home screen widget introduced customizable shortcuts, enabling one-tap access to Gemini.
The dedicated Gemini app introduces “Gemini Live,” a feature designed to provide a more interactive and conversational experience, akin to ChatGPT’s voice mode available on Android. This feature integrates seamlessly with iPhone’s Dynamic Island and lock screen, making it more accessible and engaging.
Limitations and Functionalities
Despite its advanced features, Gemini has certain limitations shared by non-Siri chatbots, notes NIX Solutions. It cannot modify device settings or access other apps directly. However, it works well with Google’s ecosystem. For example, users can ask Gemini to play music, which launches YouTube Music, or request directions, which opens Google Maps.
We’ll keep you updated on new features and integrations as they become available, ensuring users can make the most of this AI assistant.
