At the cryptocurrency conference in Dubai, Pavel Durov discussed innovations in digital assets on Telegram, joined by Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino, who announced the release of USDT stablecoin on the TON blockchain linked to the messenger.
Monetization and Payment Options
Monetization for channel administrators begins today, April 19, with payments in TON; however, in countries where cryptocurrencies aren’t recognized as means of payment, the program isn’t operational. Next week, users can start sending “tips” to administrators.
Expanded Features and Utility
The integrated TON blockchain enables the sale and purchase of stickers as NFTs, with artists receiving 95% of the proceeds. Users can also use the internal cryptocurrency for purchasing digital goods, facilitated by upcoming mini-applications, and easily create bots without programming skills. Additionally, TON coins can be exchanged in personal messages.
USDT Integration and Market Response
Paolo Ardoino of Tether highlighted that USDT, the largest stablecoin by capitalization, will now operate on the TON blockchain. Interestingly, following Durov’s announcement, the TON rate experienced a sharp decline to $6.5, compared to its previous trading value of $7.2, notes NIX Solutions.
