NIXSOLUTIONS: New WhatsApp Features for Chats & Calls

A whole list of new features has been announced for the WhatsApp messenger that will improve the work of chats, calls, and channels. Some of the updates are already available, while others will be released soon. We’ll keep you updated as they roll out to all users.

One of the most notable changes is the new “Online” indicator for group chats. It shows how many participants are currently active without revealing specific names. This makes it easier to check whether anyone from the group is available or if the chat is inactive.

For those who prefer fewer notifications from group chats, WhatsApp now allows you to customize them. The new option lets you receive only the main alerts, such as mentions, replies to your messages, and messages from saved contacts.

The messenger has also expanded the functionality of the events feature, which was previously available only in group chats. Now you can create events in personal correspondence as well. A “Maybe” response option has been added, and it’s possible to invite “+1” and pin events in chats.

Improved Communication and New Tools

Communication is becoming more interactive with improved reactions. When someone reacts to a message, others can tap that same reaction to add it themselves, making conversations more dynamic and expressive.

Video calls have been made more reliable. They are less likely to freeze or be interrupted, thanks to system optimization that finds better connection paths and quickly upgrades video quality to HD when internet speed allows.

Several features are being introduced specifically for iPhone users. These include the ability to zoom in on images during video calls by spreading fingers on the screen and the option to scan documents directly from the “Pin” menu. WhatsApp can also now be set as the default app for calls and messages on iOS.

Channel administrators have received several updates as well, adds NIXSOLUTIONS. They can now record and share short videos of up to 60 seconds, generate unique QR codes to distribute channels, and add transcripts for voice messages—making content more accessible for users with hearing impairments.

Most of the new features are already available in the latest version of the WhatsApp app for both iPhone and Android. However, some users might receive them gradually. We’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
