Apple has officially confirmed plans to integrate ChatGPT into its devices by the end of this year. Apple CEO Tim Cook stated, “ChatGPT will be integrated by the end of the calendar year.”
Integration Details and Availability
Apple first announced ChatGPT integration during its WWDC keynote in June, and Cook’s comment suggests that the timeline is still in effect as of the first week of August. According to MacRumors, iPhone, iPad, and Mac users will be able to use ChatGPT through Siri and Apple’s Writing Tools feature. The integration will allow for text and image generation using OpenAI’s latest GPT-4 model.
Apple emphasizes that ChatGPT will be free to use and will not require an OpenAI account. However, ChatGPT Plus subscribers will be able to connect their accounts to access premium features. The company also assures that OpenAI will not store user queries, and their IP addresses will be hidden.
Device Requirements and Language Support
Apple Intelligence features require an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, or a Mac or iPad with an M1 chip or later. Initially, only English will be supported, but support for other languages will be coming later in the year. The full suite of Apple Intelligence features is expected to be available with iOS 18.4, sometime in March 2025, adds NIXsolutions. The new technology will allow users to summarize text, manage notifications, generate emoji and images using AI, and use an improved version of Siri with a deeper understanding of the context of speech.
Earlier this week, Apple Intelligence features became available for developers to test in the iOS 18.1 beta, but OpenAI’s ChatGPT integration is not yet available. We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge.
