NIX Solutions: Apple Plans Major iOS Redesign

According to Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple is planning one of the most significant updates to its operating systems this year. The changes are expected to be as transformative as the release of iOS 7, when the company abandoned skeuomorphism—the use of physical object designs in the interface—in favor of a more modern aesthetic.

Citing insider sources, Gurman reports that Apple is working on a radical redesign of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. The goal is to unify the appearance of all systems, making them more consistent across devices. The update will affect icons, menus, apps, windows, and system buttons, bringing them closer in style to visionOS—the operating system for the Apple Vision Pro mixed reality headset.

Major Changes in Navigation and Interface

Apple is also working on simplifying system navigation and device management. Previous rumors suggested that iOS might introduce a new gesture for returning to the previous menu, allowing users to swipe from the right edge instead of the left, as is currently implemented.

This update is expected to be the most significant for iPhones and iPads since iOS 7 launched in 2013, notes NIX Solutions. For Mac computers, it will be the biggest overhaul since macOS Big Sur was introduced in 2020.

Expected Announcement at WWDC 2025

The first official presentation of the redesigned systems is anticipated in June at the WWDC 2025 developer conference. We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge.
