Google’s Gboard keyboard is set to introduce the ability to autocorrect entire sentences with a single tap, along with a few additional changes.
New Keyboard Toggle Button
Google is working on a new keyboard toggle button for Android devices. Currently, to change the default keyboard, users must go to Settings > System > Keyboard. For those using multiple languages or keyboard layouts, Gboard allows switching between them by long-pressing the spacebar.
However, to make room for the new toggle button, Google is reportedly planning to disable the long-press gesture for switching keyboards in Gboard. The new toggle button will allow users to switch between keyboards with a single tap and open a toggle menu to manage keyboard options. This code was discovered in Gboard beta version 14.6.02.665297282.
Autocorrect and Customization Improvements
In addition to the keyboard toggle button, reports suggest that Google is enhancing Gboard’s autocorrect functionality. Currently, Gboard offers a suggestion bar to help complete sentences, next-word suggestions, auto-capitalization, and grammar checking.
With the upcoming update, users will be able to choose whether autocorrect applies only to individual words or to both words and full sentences. This new functionality aims to provide more control and flexibility over autocorrections.
A new pencil icon will also appear in the app’s customization menu. By tapping the settings gear icon, users can navigate between features like One-handed mode, Translate, and Resize. Google plans to introduce an edit button, represented by the pencil icon, which will allow users to rearrange these tools after tapping it, minimizing accidental edits, adds NIX Solutions.
Expected Release with Android 15 QPR1
While the new autocorrect options and customization tools may arrive soon, the dedicated keyboard toggle and expanded correction features are likely to be introduced with the Android 15 QPR1 update. We’ll keep you updated on the latest developments.
