Apple has released another software update for iPhone and iPad — iOS 17.6 and iPadOS 17.6 are already available for download on all compatible devices. These are probably some of the last relatively major updates for these operating systems — we won’t have to wait long for iOS 18.
It should be noted that the mentioned updates practically do not include any significant features and are mainly focused on increasing the level of security and stability of the OS. The only notable innovation in iOS 17.6 was the Catch Up function, which allows you to view a brief summary of the events of sports broadcasts shown by the Apple TV service.
Catch Up Feature for Sports Broadcasts
For example, if a user for some reason was late for the start of a match broadcast, they can watch a series of short videos with the most striking moments that happened earlier. You can also access the most interesting moments after the end of the broadcast. The Catch Up function is currently available as part of the MLS Season Pass subscription, which provides access to American Football League matches. It is likely that in the future this feature will also be supported during the broadcast of other sporting events.
Looking Ahead to iOS 18
iOS 17.6 will be one of the last updates for the current generation mobile software platform, notes NIX Solutions. Apple will begin distributing iOS 18 in September, but most likely, the iOS 17.7 update will still be released before that. Not long ago, Apple released the first beta version of iOS 18.1, which implemented the first AI functions within Apple Intelligence.
We’ll keep you updated on any further developments regarding iOS updates and new features as they become available.
