Meta has started testing a new feature for Facebook and Instagram that introduces AI-generated images to users’ feeds. According to Meta, this content, labeled “Imagined for You,” will be based on user interests or current trends and may even include images of the users themselves.
How AI-Generated Images Will Work
The AI-generated scenes allow users to imagine themselves in various roles, such as a video game character or an astronaut exploring space. The system utilizes users’ photos to create these images. Meta spokesperson Amanda Felix clarified that the platform will only generate images with a user’s face if they opt in to the “Imagine Yourself” feature and agree to the terms. In the future, users will have the option to share such photos or generate selfies in real-time.
User Control and Future Deployment
Mark Zuckerberg mentioned to The Verge that introducing AI images is the next “logical step” for Facebook and Instagram, expanding beyond traditional user-generated content. Users will have the option to disable AI-generated images in their feeds while still retaining the ability to share them. For images featuring a user’s face, they will only be available if the person grants permission, notes NIX Solutions. Meta emphasized that this feature is still in the testing stage, so it’s unclear how quickly or widely it will be rolled out. We’ll keep you updated on further developments.
