NIX Solutions: New Google Play Security Updates

Google has announced new security features for the Play Store and Android app store, set to launch in 2025. These updates will improve the detection of malicious apps, make it harder for attackers to install malware, enhance the reliability of the Play Integrity API, and introduce new app labels.

The Google Play Protect system, which already detects threats in real time, will expand its capabilities. It currently warns users about apps that collect sensitive data or track them without consent and analyzes app activity patterns. Soon, it will also identify malicious apps posing as financial services clients and flag inactive apps or those trying to hide their activity.

Stricter Measures Against Malicious Apps

Google aims to make it more difficult for attackers to trick users into installing malware through deceptive methods. The company found that malware is 50 times more prevalent in third-party sources than in the Play Store. To address this, the store will increase the use of labels, such as the “Verified” label for network services and other app categories.

The Play Integrity API will become more robust, improving its ability to re-identify high-risk devices while preserving user privacy. Google stated that this feature has already helped reduce app abuse by 80%. Developers will also gain access to additional checks in Android Studio to prevent policy violations, adds NIX Solutions.

Improved Support for Developers

Google plans to enhance communication with developers through the Play Console and expand support communities in multiple languages, including Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, and Portuguese. These changes aim to streamline compliance and improve app security across the platform.

With these updates, Google continues to strengthen security for Android users. We’ll keep you updated as more details emerge.
