The beta version of Telegram for Android (11.9.1) now includes a group calling feature that allows up to 100 users to communicate simultaneously within one group. This update was reported by the resource “Durova Code” in its Telegram channel. The new functionality can be accessed in the “Calls” section by selecting the Start New Call option, followed by Create Call Link.
After that, the user is prompted to copy a call link in the format t.me/call
, which can then be shared with multiple participants in the group by tapping the Share button. This allows for quick and convenient distribution of the group call invitation.
Participants in the group call can also invite additional users, provided that their privacy settings permit it. This opens up new possibilities for hosting large-scale audio discussions or meetings directly within Telegram, without the need for external platforms.
Group calls in Telegram are protected by end-to-end encryption (E2E), ensuring secure communication. Each participant can independently enable or disable their microphone and speaker, as well as broadcast an image from their camera, allowing for flexible participation depending on user preferences and privacy.
Telegram’s Continued Expansion
Telegram continues to expand its features and user base. Earlier in April, the platform began marking channels whose owners were registered with Roskomnadzor. This move aligns with ongoing changes in how digital platforms are regulated in various regions.
Also in April, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced that the app had surpassed 1 billion monthly active users, reminds NIX Solutions. This milestone places Telegram just behind WhatsApp in terms of global popularity, excluding China’s WeChat.
The addition of group calls marks another step in Telegram’s evolution from a messaging app into a more robust communication platform. While the feature is currently in beta and only available for Android users, further updates and a broader rollout are expected in the future. We’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
